ENZYMES OF STAPHYLOCOCCUS

Abstract
Staphylococcus is one of important pathogens in clinical microbiology. There are still many discussions for the definition between Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Extracellular enzymes have been detected in various laboratory but these substances in pathogenecity is largely unknown.
Tests for coagulase, mannitol, DNase, phosphatase, staphylokinase (fibrinolysin), protease and hemolysin were examined for 114 Staphylococcal strains.
The results are summarized follows.
1) Coagulase positive strains are 83. 4% among 114 Staphylococcus.
2) Approximately 95. 9% of coagulase positive strains elaborated DNase, mannitol and phosphatase.
3) Tryton is more valuable in single source of nitrogen and meat infusion broth in compound sources for elaborated phosphatase.
